Come to the Place of “Let”

Philippians 2:5

LET this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
John 14:1
LET not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. LET not your heart be troubled, neither LET it be afraid.

The Letter Kills

I awakened this morning about three o’clock, as I so often do, again wrestling with all the seeming contradictions of Scripture. The “but what about” Scriptures were bombarding my brain. (See But What About . . .? I had a prolonged discussion with my husband about how difficult it is to relate to a God I find described in Scripture. While He is supposed to be love and infinitely compassionate, I see Him assigning untold numbers to everlasting torment.

What Is Faith?

But What About …?

Each of us has within ourselves what we call a paradigm —a way of looking at things. When we encounter information that doesn’t fit into our paradigm, we immediately want to discount it and usually become quite defensive. It is distressing to have our paradigm challenged. That is why birds of a feather flock together, why we tend to stick with those people who think as we do. We all like to remain in our comfort zone.

Should I See a Physician?

Note: This contemplation should be read after reading Belief in Two Powers and before reading Dare We Trust God for our Physical Well-Being?

For many years I have not gone to a doctor, except for cataract surgery and dental work. As I looked around me, I saw everyone my age taking pills by the dozen, pills which I learned on television had the most awful possible side effects. Then I would hear of people going into the hospital for the most simple procedure and nearly dying of staph infection or some mistake made by medical personnel. I really wanted no part of it.

What Is “God’s Call”?

What Is God’s call or the calling of God and how are we to respond?

Paul tells us that the gifts and calling of God are without repentance, (Romans 11:29) that not many who are somebodies in this world are called (1Corinthians 1:26) —or at least don’t recognize that they are called. Paul goes on to say that we are to abide in the same calling wherein we were called (1Corinthians 7:20), that this calling is a holy calling and was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began and not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace (2Timothy 1:9). And Peter admonishes us to give diligence to make our calling sure (2Peter 1:10).
